Outdoor Learning

We are incredibly fortunate to be situated on such beautiful grounds, which provide an inspiring and natural environment for the development of our Outdoor Learning programme. Over time, we have made significant enhancements to our school site to create engaging, hands-on outdoor educational spaces that encourage exploration, creativity, and connection with nature.

We have an organic allotment, wildflower meadow, sustainable composting system, natural pond as well as a Forest School and orienteering course. The children are fully involved in all of the outdoor learning areas and are very proud of their school. During a fieldwork event, Joshua in Year 4 summarized the positives of the grounds: "we are so lucky to grow our own vegetables and have so much nature here- not every school has this" and Rosie in Year 6 announced that "learning outside is the best thing-I hope I get it next year at secondary school".

The established allotment allows the children to plant, grow and harvest their own food which they sometimes donate to the 'pop-up farm shop' at the school office or taste and cook as part of their DT learning. The newly built pond has enhanced our pupils' science and maths learning, allowing all children to investigate living things through hands-on discovery.

All of our pupils are given the opportunity to attend Forest School sessions, in which, they are able to develop a variety of life skills, such as, using tools, fire, cooking and knots. We are also a Rights Respecting School and believe every child has the right to rest and play along with the right to develop their own talents and interests, which for some of our pupils, involves being in nature.

The photographs below show some of the developments and activities we have carried out on our school site. Some of which we have developed with help from our school community such as our 'Biodiversity Saturday', Earth Fair and family summer holiday gardening days.
