Spellings
In year 2, as part of the national curriculum it is expected that your child will know certain spellings. A copy of each week’s spelling can be found at the bottom of the page.
Topic Homework
Each term a new topic homework will be set, because of current guidelines we are unable to display these as we once would have. Please send photos of the completed tasks to your child’s class teacher or the year 2 inbox as we would still like to celebrate the lovely work being done.
Myon and Accelerated Reader
The children are given reading books every week. Once read, they can do an accelerated reader quiz on them. Books can be changed and quizzes completed in school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
If your child completes their book quickly please encourage them to reread it for fluency and understanding. Your child can access a variety of books appropriate for their reading level on Myon, quizzes can also be done on these books.
Phonics Test
The children have a phonics session every day in school. In preparation for the phonics test, please support your child’s learning by referring back to our previous letter outlining the RWI sets.
Below are some additional resources your child may want to access at home:

We've also put together a list of some fun activities that you'd might like your children to have a go at. We've designed them so you don't need access to electronic devices! Click on this link to have a look at them.
Spellings
As part of the National Curriculum, children are expected to know certain spellings at different points during primary school. These spellings are practised and used in school but your support in running over these would be very beneficial for your child. If you would like to do this then we recommend that you focus on a few spellings at a time and try to make it as fun as you can! There a number of free apps, such as Spelling Notebook, where you can add word lists on to help them practise.
Click here for the Year 1 list and here for the Year 2 list.
Remember your child's class teacher would be more than happy to assist you with any of these activities. They will be able to advise different approaches as well as advising on any particular areas of focus.
Many thanks for your support.
